WHY GREATEST MINDS - A GATHERING of BLACK BOSTONIANS? Why not!

For years, Boston has struggled with its image as a city unfriendly to its African-American residents. Along with the image goes the fact that Boston has very little black representation in politics and in the ranks of senior management, or civic life in general. Historically, black professionals have come (or returned) to Boston to work, only to leave within a couple of years.

NBCA's NEXT GENERATION is helping young black individuals who want to live here in Boston, take develop action steps and get civically activeto get things done!

This conference is sponsored by the National Black College Alliance and their Next Generation program. It is also sponsored by a number of community based agencies and other civic organizations.

About NBCA's Next Generation Program
National Black College Alliance's Next Generation program is designed to address the need to make Boston a more hospitable city to young black professionals. This new program adds to those projects by providing skills and knowledge for young black professionals in Boston who want to be active members of Boston's communities. At the same time, we will be working to grow the network of civically engaged African-American Bostonians.

Most current Next Generation participants are natives of Boston, having gone through Boston Public Schools, local summer jobs programs, and other Boston-based programs. They have decided to make Boston their home. NBCA is providing the opportunity for them to work together towards improving Boston's communities and making Boston a city that is more welcoming and more responsive to the needs of African-American professionals. This program is an exciting and important addition to NBCA's work with youth, college students, and college alumni. The program allows us to engage our own former participants as they graduate from college and look for ways to be involved in Boston's communities. Next Generation will strengthen our work to forge connections across generationsbetween urban minority youth, successful Black college students and graduates, and community leadersin order to inspire African-American students and graduates to give back to their communities. Join up and be a part of NEXT GENERATION. For more information, please contact 617.442.8045 or email us at for NEXT GENERATION, email us at boston@nbcalliance.org.

About the National Black College Alliance ( NBCA ) The National Black College Alliance is a network of alumni and college students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Through the organization's city programs and college chapters, NBCA's mission is to create the next generation of urban civic leaders by encouraging community volunteerism and college education to high school students and by fostering the civic engagement of black college graduates. The unique strength of NBCA's work comes from the connections we forge across generationsbetween urban minority youth, successful black college students and graduates, and community leaders. We seek to increase the numbers of urban minority youth obtaining college degrees, increase civic participation, and encourage philanthropy. To this end, NBCA creates an atmosphere where high school students, college students, alumni, and adults can together experience educational, professional, and personal growth.
