This position will support the residents of the Area 4/Port Neighborhood to play active and engaged roles in the betterment of their community. The Coordinator will be a critical link between residents and between the neighborhood and the services it needs.
Hours: Full Time
$36,000-$40,000 plus excellent benefits

The Area 4 Neighborhood Coordinator will support the residents of the Area 4/Port Neighborhood to play active and engaged roles in the betterment of their community. The Coordinator has 2 primary functions: (1) The Coordinator will work to support, expand and fulfill the mission of the Area 4 Coalition and involve and empower residents; and (2) The Coordinator will support the implementation of the Port Action Group Charter through work with community members and the city to ensure that the community, the city service and political structures keep their focus and commitment to stopping and dealing with violence and other issues in the community. The Coordinator will be a critical link between residents and between the neighborhood and the services it needs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Coordinate the Area 4 Coalition
• Build the membership of the Area 4 Coalition, expanding the number and diversity of residents involved
• Assist leadership in meeting planning, preparation and follow-thru
• Support the work of the UDAG Grant-Making Committee and its work with UDAG Grantees and the Community Development department
• Maintain files and archives for UDAG activities
• Improve Coalition communication with city agencies and broader community
• Other tasks and projects as prioritized by the Coalition and Leadership Committee.
Work to fulfill the Port Action Charter
• Facilitate the implementation of the Area 4 Neighborhood charter and Port Action Group meetings
• Work with the city’s Violence Prevention coordinator to identify and communicate what resources the community groups, city offices and other agencies offer for stopping and dealing with violence and other issues in Area 4
• Work with the Area 4 Street Worker to secure necessary resources and access to services for community members and develop strong referral networks for individuals and families
• Conduct/support outreach to, and development of linkages with all segments of the community, including youth, parents, residents of housing developments, other residents of Area 4, providers, community agencies, members of the business community, etc., including residents from various ethnically, racially, and linguistically defined communities
• Catalog, update and communicate local community services.

• Knowledge of the Port/Area 4 neighborhood, its residents, and the issues they face
• Ability to facilitate groups and build collaboration; coalition building skills
• Ability to use community resources
• Able to work with diverse populations
• Strong advocacy skills
• Ability to develop grassroots leadership
• Ability to identify grants and other resources
• Ability to work independently
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
