Massachusetts Promise Fellows deliver the resources that young people need to be successful in life by mobilizing and organizing community activity, creating and leading powerful initiatives, and training and inspiring citizen volunteers.

The Massachusetts Promise Fellowship achieves this by placing Fellows with non-profit organizations and state/local government agencies that focus on fulfilling the needs of our youth by providing; a caring adult, a safe place, a healthy start, a marketable skill, and an opportunity to give back.

SERVICE DESCRIPTION
AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts, Inc. is a not-for-profit, community-based public health organization whose mission is to stop the HIV/AIDS epidemic by optimizing the health of those who are already infected and by preventing new infections. The Massachusetts Promise Fellow serving with AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts, Inc. will work on the youth action/leadership components of the BE SAFE initiative a unique, cross issue collaboration that will address three key inter-related health issues: sexual health, drug and alcohol use, and healthy relationships with a specific emphasis on bullying, dating and relationship violence. The Fellow will focus primarily on heading up the youth leadership and action component (leadership group & mentoring across agencies), training delivery, and website technology and development.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
 Plan, support, and direct the activities of the Youth Leadership Board, a group of teams of youth from youth-serving organizations around Boston
 Implement a youth development component into every aspect of BE SAFE, and ensure that youth voice is integrated into all of the work of BE SAFE
 Work to train and plan with a team of co-facilitators, including youth and interns
 Lead the development of web resources and other technological aspects of the BE SAFE initiative
 Actively participate in the planning and implementation of all work groups of BE SAFE
 Assist with the curriculum development and training delivery with staff of youth programs, in areas of interest and expertise
 Travel at least once/month for Fellowship meetings, retreats, and training

QUALIFICATIONS
 BA/BS preferred
 Excellent organizational and communication skills
 The ability to work independently and as a team member
 Successful experience working with diverse urban youth
 An interest in national and community service
 The desire to work with diverse constituencies
 Flexibility and a sense of humor
 Must be a US Resident, US National or Permanent Resident Alien

For a one year full-time commitment and 1700 hours of AmeriCorps service Fellows receive:
