This position starts in July 2008 and lasts for one year.

Responsibilities
• Manage grant applications, events, direct mail appeals, our consulting work, and other development needs.
• Expand our fundraising capacity, especially for individual donor management;
• Work with our Executive Director, VISTA Manager, board members, and our Development Committee to develop a long-range diversified, sustainable fundraising strategy, and a more specific three-year fundraising plan.
• Manage fundraising volunteers.
• Prepare reports for funders, board members, and staff.
• Identify new fundraising partners across diverse sectors.
• Perform other duties as necessary.

Education and Experience
College degree or equivalent work experience.
Fundraising experience preferred, or willingness to learn.
Experience working with children and/or in community services.
Experience with adoption or foster care helpful but not required.
Marketing or communications experience a plus.

Skills/Knowledge
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong planning and big-picture thinking skills.
Excellent organizational and project management skills, and the ability to manage a high level of responsibility
The ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
Good computer skills and willingness to learn new programs. Database experience helpful.
Dedication to AFC’s mission.
An interest in national and community service.
The desire to work with diverse constituencies.

Benefits
For a year commitment to full-time work VISTAs receive:
• A $11,388 taxable living allowance and health benefits (paid by AmeriCorps*.
• A $300/month housing stipend.
• A $4,725 educational award or $1,200 post-service stipend.
