A position at The Medical Foundation

The full-time Fellow serving with The Medical Foundation will have the opportunity to build the capacity of young people, between the ages of 14-18, to address youth tobacco and other drug abuse prevention by creating a Harbor Communities youth advisory group for tobacco prevention and more.

Hours: Full Time, year long commitment

$250/week Living Allowance & other benefits

Massachusetts Promise Fellows deliver the resources that young people need to be successful in life by mobilizing and organizing community activity, creating and leading powerful initiatives, and training and inspiring citizen volunteers.

The Massachusetts Promise Fellowship achieves this by placing Fellows with non-profit organizations and state/local government agencies that focus on fulfilling the needs of our youth by providing; a caring adult, a safe place, a healthy start, a marketable skill, and an opportunity to give back.

SERVICE DESCRIPTION
The full-time Fellow serving with The Medical Foundation will have the opportunity to build the capacity of young people, between the ages of 14-18, to address youth tobacco and other drug abuse prevention by creating a Harbor Communities youth advisory group for tobacco prevention, as well as with substance abuse coalitions in the Greater Boston region. The Fellow will be a key player in providing assistance to substance abuse prevention community coalitions to integrate youth into their coalition, as well as utilizing a youth development approach in all of their planning and implementation activities.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
* Building partnerships with other youth programs within Greater Boston, as well as across the state
* Creating and maintaining the Youth Advisory Group for tobacco prevention by recruiting, training, and working with youth in East Boston and the Harbor Communities of Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop
* Working with two Greater Boston area substance abuse coalitions to integrate youth into their coalitions
* Travel at least once/month for Fellowship meetings, retreats and training

QUALIFICATIONS
* Excellent organizational and communication skills
* The ability to work independently
* An interest in national and community service
* The desire to work with diverse constituencies
* Proven ability to manage multiple tasks
* Ability to network and communicate with citizen groups and community agencies
* Interest in public health, youth development, public speaking, community organizing, media advocacy, and substance abuse prevention
* US Citizen, US National or Permanent Resident Alien

BENEFITS
For a one year full-time commitment and 1700 hours of AmeriCorps service Fellows receive:
