Details
MissionWe'll identify students of promise and provide them with the tools that they need to build careers and become leaders in public service, policy, and politics. Program participants will have the opportunity to transform from objects of public policy into architects of public policy. Or Democratic values of social and economic justice require that policy creation and public leadership involve individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, economic and geographic backgrounds and circumstances.
Action
In summer 2008, the Massachusetts Democratic Party will pilot its Diversity Internship Program.
Goals and components of the program are:
- Involve 15 students from community and four year colleges
- Provide an 11 week paid, full time internship for each student
- Immerse students in 1 week of training and preparation at MDP headquarters, continue training components throughout internship
- Pair students with mentors who are successful in the public service realm
- Place participants in state government, public policy, non-profit, organized labor, private and political settings
- Facilitate relationship building with mentors and peers
We intend to graduate an inaugural class of interns who have the relationships and tools necessary to succeed in a career in public service. Further, we intend to grow this program such that it has an increasingly transformative effect on both the individual involved and the communities they will serve.
Please also put in your letter or correspondence that you learned about this through George " Chip" Greenidge from the National Black College Alliance.
