Program Description:
The Urban Youth Leadership Corps (UYLC) is a nationally unique model that unites youth engaged in and affected by violence with violence prevention and leadership development programs based on scientifically based curricula. Each year 15 Peace Fellows, women and men ages 17-24, are engaged to teach and model nonviolent conflict resolution, leadership, civic responsibility, and self-esteem to 300 7-12 year-olds in out-of-school programs in Boston’s neighborhoods affected by violent crime, 200 volunteers and to 30 families in workshops.

Job Summary:
Responsible for the overall training and management of the day-to-day team based operations of 15 Peace Fellows. Fellows provide service in teams of 3 to 5 Boston neighborhoods most affected by violent crime: Dorchester, Roxbury, Mission Hill, South End and Charlestown.

Position Overview:
Boston Centers for Youth & Families seeks a self-starting Program Coordinator to manage 15 Peace Fellows and reduce violence in Boston.

Responsibilities:
1. The Program Coordinator leads UYLC recruitment, orientation/training, management and evaluation of 15 Peace Fellows.
2. Works collaboratively with Partner Sites and other community-based organizations to provide a base of program options that support UYLC mission and goals.
3. Coordinates the Peace Fellows Community Service activities and annual Legacy Project with support from the
Program Manager and Partner Sites and other members of the surrounding community.
4. Provides technical assistance to Peace Fellows who will identify and develop appropriate strategies for integration of peaceful conflict resolution techniques into community organizing activities with the older youth engaged in the program in the neighborhoods surrounding the partner sites.
5. Works collaboratively with BCYF staff to organize activities showcasing the work of the Peace Fellows and the students they serve.
6. Participates in key funder information sessions and meetings:
    a. Massachusetts Service Alliance
    b. Corporation for National and Community Service
    c. Other funders as necessary
7. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed related to the Urban Youth Leadership Corp of Peace Fellows.

Requirements:
Significant volunteer or other community service experience
BA/BS Preferred
Commitment to reducing violence in Boston
Enjoy educating children 7-12 years old
Capable of managing 15 young adults 16-24 years old
Ability to work as both a team member and independent leader
