A position at Renewal House

Renewal House is looking for someone with great interpersonal skills, knowledge of word processing and data management programs, experience in social service settings, especially in domestic violence issues, as well as a commitment to continued personal and professional growth.

Hours: Full-time

Renewal House is a temporary emergency shelter for individuals and families fleeing domestic violence. We provide individual and group advocacy and support, as well as referrals and guidance in the areas of housing, education, employment and the legal system. We are committed to social justice by working closely with individuals and families as they move forward in their lives. We do this through education, advocacy and acknowledging the intrinsic value of each individual.

We are looking for someone with great interpersonal skills, knowledge of word processing and data management programs, experience in social service settings, especially in domestic violence issues, as well as a commitment to continued personal and professional growth. Ours is a supportive multi-cultural staff team.

Responsibilities include:

    Providing supportive advocacy to individuals in the shelter
    Answering and assisting callers on the hotline
        Compiling monthly statistics grants and state contracts
    Serving as advocate for 3 shelter residents
    Attending staff meetings and trainings
    Attending community networking and training meetings
    Continuing education in issues related to advocacy work

Preferred hours: 10am – 6pm, Monday through Friday (40 hours per week).

Qualifications:

Commitment to social justice, excellent written and verbal communication skills; individual and group problem-solving and crisis intervention skills; computer aptitude, including knowledge of databases and data management; B.A. in social work or related field and/or comparable work experience with individuals in crisis; commitment to working against domestic violence; team player; ability to take initiative and take responsibility for one’s own professional development.

Salary: $30-32K, depending on experience. Excellent benefits.
