Drop-in Youth Sports Nights offer neighborhood teens a safe place to hang out on summer evenings. Youth age 8-18 play flag football, basketball, baseball, kickball, double dutch, and Frisbee. Some just hang out. A barbecue is set up and hamburgers and hot dogs are grilled for everyone.

The Franklin Park Coalition summer youth crews help staff Sports Nights. A crew of ten teens will be on duty each of the three nights helping with the barbecue, leading games, and doing sign-in. Youth crew members also assist with outreach, taking flyers into the adjacent neighborhoods before Sports Night starts to invite young people who are hanging out.

Job Duties
1.Targeted outreach to churches, community organizations, high schools, and youth programs to invite teens, youth groups, and youth workers to Sports Nights with a goal of 100 youth each night.
2.Recruit volunteer adults to assist: athletic coaches, police, community members, parents, pastors, etc. Maintain communication and coordination with them throughout the summer.
3.Serve as liaison to volunteer sports and youth groups throughout the summer, supporting their involvement and appreciating their contributions.
4.Purchase food and supplies, arrange for barbecue, manage grilling and food distribution.
5.Supervise variety of athletic activities for different ages, boys & girls, more skilled and less skilled.
6.Help train FPC youth crew members to lead games and activities.
7.Make sure paperwork for grants is completed every week: sign-in sheets, youth surveys, etc.
8.Involve FPC staff as needed and participate in staff meetings when appropriate.
9.Attend police, community, and youth meetings if issues arise during the summer.
10.Be willing to do whatever tasks and running around are required to make Sports Nights run smoothly and be successful.

Successful candidates will be familiar with Franklin Park and the surrounding neighborhoods and have experience with urban teens. Access to a car is required, mileage will be reimbursed.
