The Asian Community Development Corporation (ACDC), a community-based organization, is committed to
high standards of performance and integrity in serving the Asian American community of Greater Boston,
with an emphasis on preserving and revitalizing Boston's Chinatown. Today the scope of our community
development mission encompasses neighborhood-, community-, and region-wide emphasis on planning,
advocacy, and organizing for affordable housing in Asian American communities, real-estate development of
mixed-income properties, cultural economic development, and community programs supporting sustained
social diversity and cultural identity. ACDC has co-developed over $100 million of real estate in downtown
Boston, and operates a number of community development programs aimed at raising the capacity of the
Asian community of Greater Boston through education, organizing, leadership development and technical
assistance.

Roles and Responsibilities:
This VISTA member will develop effective online communications that complement and support program
work for ACDC's youth program, Asian Voices of Organized Youth for Community Empowerment (AVOYCE).
This person works to inform the development of online strategic initiatives, and assumes primary
responsibility for content development and strategy. A-VOYCE serves youth ages 13-19 from the Greater
Boston area, with an emphasis on low-income youth from Boston and urban Asian American (AA)
communities. This youth development program fosters leadership potential and encourages youth to develop
an active voice in their community through two project tracts: producing and leading Chinatown walking tours
and producing a weekly radio show that broadcasts on WMFO 91.5 Tuft Community Radio.
The VISTA member will primarily be responsible for creating a strategy to use web 2.0 tools such as, but not
limited to, Facebook, Myspace, YouTube, blogs, and wikis,for publicity, marketing, and fundraising purposes.
Depending on the VISTA member's interests, s/he will have the opportunity to identify synergistic approaches
that align electronic media and web content presentation with enterprise objectives. Possible projects would
involve developing an online marketing plan to increase number of paid walking tours or creating a prototype
for disseminating the audio walking tour. While the VISTA will not work directly with youth, s/he will be
instrumental in growing the youth program by providing a framework for using web based tools and forums to
share A-VOYCE projects such as podcasts of our radio shows, oral histories, and excerpts from a forthcoming
A-VOYCE literary magazine. S/he will also work with the youth programs staff to identify best practices for
media education and engaging youth in producing web media content.

Duties include but are not limited to:
o Configure and update web pages.
o Maintain and cultivate A-VOYCE’s online communities including approving friends and monitoring
comments on social networking sites, posting items and blog entries, etc.
o Assist with copywriting and editing for email campaigns and website, as appropriate
o Draft and configure donation, survey, and eCommerce forms and pages.
o Integrate visuals, photos, video, and audio files to make A-VOYCE web content more engaging.
o Promote and market A-VOYCE’s work to the online community and raise its overall profile.
o Link A-VOYCE content to other websites
o Monitor and work with ACDC staff to cross-promote and integrate communications.
o Some light related administrative duties

Skills and Qualifications:
o Strong Project Management/organizational skills.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
o Interest in nonprofits, community development, and or working with underserved communities
o Ability to own and move a project through from beginning to end and multi-task.
o Excellent communication and collaboration skills-informing internals of progress and giving/ receiving
feedback
o Strong PC, and Internet knowledge.
o Experience in web publishing, online content management, and HTML. Desktop publishing and multimedia
experience a plus.
o Some college/ Bachelor's degree and/or 2 years professional experience

Benefits and Compensation
o The exact amount of the bi-weekly allowance varies from place-to-place but it is between $10,500 -
$11,000 per year.
o Either a $1200 cash stipend or $4725 education award at the completion of service. The education award
can be used to pay for tuition at many universities or to pay off student loans. Some colleges and universities
offer additional credits or scholarships, even matching the ed. award, for AmeriCorps alumni.
o Most student loans can be deferred during service (check with your lending agency).
o Basic health insurance coverage.
o Childcare assistance available.
o All CTC VISTAs attend a national media or technology conference and ACDC will provide additional
professional development opportunities
o Transportation support (train/bus pass or the like).
o The ongoing support of the CTC VISTA Project staff and a network of 50 VISTAs working on media and
technology projects across the country.

VISTA* AmeriCorps Rules
o Vistas can only be enrolled in one university course per semester. That course should relate in some way to
their work and must be approved by the Project.
o VISTA members absolutely cannot have outside employment during their year of service.
