The Youth Programs Coordinator will work directly as a Youth Worker in the Festival Arts middle school program and the Beantown Society high school program at Spontaneous Celebrations.

Hours: 30-35 hours/week

$17/hour

Position Start Date: September 1, 2008; this is a 10-month position (September - June) with possible summer extension

The Youth Programs Coordinator will work directly as a Youth Worker in the Festival Arts middle school program and the Beantown Society high school program at Spontaneous Celebrations. Along with direct youth work, the coordinator will be the primary administrator for Festival Arts and support administrative and fundraising efforts in Beantown Society. In addition to the specific job responsibilities, all Spontaneous employees are expected to play a major role during Spontaneous festivals (Lantern Parade, 1st Night Parade, Wake Up The Earth) and to play an active role in the Spontaneous Celebrations Collective.

We are open to hiring one full time youth worker (30-35 hours per week) or two part time youth workers who have specific skill sets needed for the middle school and high school programs.

Responsibilities Include:

* Youth Worker, Festival Arts and Beantown Society (~18 hours per week)
o Core member of Festival Arts middle school staff team: responsible for helping to create a strong, cohesive community amongst students and staff.
o Active member of youth-adult team in Beantown Society: responsible for mentoring and supporting youth staff to run the program.

* General Student Support and Advocacy (~2 hours per week)
o Ongoing support of youth in their academic, artistic, and intellectual growth as well as their emotional and spiritual health.
o Help create a community of support by connecting youth with family, school and community resources.
o Advocacy on behalf of youth as needed in family, school and community.

* Festival Arts Program Administration (~5 hours per week)
o Maintaining consistent communication with students families and schools
o Enrolling new students with needed paperwork and maintaining files & payments
o Keeping daily attendance records, contacting parents of absent students
o Recruiting, training, and supervising interns and volunteers
o Developing and Implementing Program Evaluation Tools
o Assisting with management of and reporting on all Festival Arts grants
o Maintaining Department of Early Education & Child Care licensing.
o Maintaining overall programs systems, schedules and files.

* Beantown Society Administration and Development Support (~3 hours per week).
o Work with youth administrator to create systems (electronic and paper) to maintain all program files and binders including student info, curriculum, events, payroll and evaluation.
o Coordinate “Futures” component of program: this includes academic tutoring, college counseling, and career counseling.
o Assist with fundraising efforts from foundations, individuals and through events.

* Meetings (~4 hours per week)
As part of our intention to build a collaborative work environment, the Youth Programs Coordinator is expected to attend the following meetings:
o Attend weekly Beantown Society meetings.
o Attend bi-monthly Festival Arts meetings
o Attend bi-monthly Spontaneous Staff Meeting
o Attend bi-monthly JP Unidos meetings and other community meetings
o Attend monthly Spontaneous Collective trainings and meetings
o Attend annual Spontaneous Collective Retreat
