A Message from Darrin Howell

Regarding 40 Day/40 Night Moratorium on Youth Violent Behavior

July 31, 2008

To Whom It May Concern:

Summer interns from Boston City Councillor Chuck Turner’s office may have contacted you recently to ask you to support the Strongest Link Coalition. Some indicated that they would like more information on The Strongest Link Coalition,

The Coalition grew out of a call from a group of brothers at Old Colony Correctional Center who said they wanted to be of help in the struggle to reduce violence in the community, particularly among young people. Its purpose is to build an alliance between members of the community working on bringing peace to the community and those from our community who are incarcerated who want to be of help

With the help of Commissioner Clarke, the new prison commissioner, we and nine of the men at Old Colony made a DVD apologizing for their behavior and warning our youth not to make the same mistakes that led to their incarceration. Recently, the coalition made a call for 40 days of peace during which the Coalition could work at identifying resources to help youth, particularly those young people who are between 16 and 24 who are out of school and out of work. We will call during the next couple of weeks to see if you have programs or resources that would be of value to the group described above.

For further information on The Strongest Link check out our website: www.strongestlinkboston.com. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 617-635-3510.

Sincerely,

Darrin Howell

Director of Constituent Services
Office of Boston City Councillor Chuck Turner
