Boston After School & Beyond Announces Interim CEO & Transition Plan

Boston Beyond’s Board of Directors is delighted to announce the appointment of Marinell Rousmaniere as interim CEO of the organization effective January 1, 2008.

This appointment provides a smooth transition for the organization following the departure of Stephen Pratt at the end of December 2007. Board Chairman Chris Gabrieli commented, “We are excited to have Marinell Rousmaniere in this role during this critical transition time for Boston Beyond. Marinell brings experience in both the public and private sectors of OST and at the program and system level, having served on staff of Mayor Menino’s 2:00-to-6:00 After-School Initiative and most recently as Executive Director of a respected youth organization, MYTOWN. Her skills and perspective will be a great asset to the Board of Directors and external stakeholders during this transition.”

In addition to appointing an interim CEO, Boston Beyond's Board is using the opportunity presented by this leadership transition to thoroughly review its strategy and direction and develop a renewed approach for best meeting the goal of an expanded, strengthened, and sustainable out-of-school time sector in Boston. Chief Operating Officer Mariel Gonzales will play a central leadership role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of Boston Beyond and its current initiatives, BOSTONavigator, Partners for Student Success, and the Teen Initiative. A search for a new CEO will begin in the coming weeks.

The City of Boston, providers, funders and other stakeholders will be involved in this transition and the Board looks forward to engaging the field as the process unfolds. Mayor Menino commented “As Mayor, I remain committed to making sure every child in Boston has the opportunity to succeed at school and beyond. After-school programs and activities that enrich and expand a child’s experience are critical to that success. I look forward to working with the Board of Boston Beyond to forge a stronger, more active alliance for children.”
