Whats good YWA,

I have some exciting news! This summer, I will be a Senior Counselor for Franklin I-O—one of 12 community-based summer camps offered through the Phillips Brooks House Association (PBHA) for low-income youth in Boston.

Franklin I-O is a seven-week academic and enrichment camp in the Dorchester community, serving approximately 80 youth, ages 6-13, every summer. Youth at this critical age benefit greatly from this camp experience where we encourage academic achievement and confidence in both self and community, through creative learning and service projects. Most of the youth with whom we work reside in either the Franklin Hill or Field Housing Developments, which together comprise a community challenged by low-income levels, high crime rates, drug and alcohol abuse, single-parent households, and a general lack and fragmentation of social and educational services. With a recent increase in gun violence in the Dorchester area, our camp is even more important in providing a safe, learning environment for our students. Raising the necessary funds to provide the camps these children deserve, however, is a struggle.

I need your help! As a student-led nonprofit organization, we must raise a substantial amount of funds to make this vital program possible. Any amount that you're able to give will directly benefit the lives of these campers. In fact, a donor is generously willing to match online credit card contributions to our camp through PBHA's secure online site--so whatever amount you can give will have a double impact. For example, a contribution of $25 would actually give us $50 through the matching challenge. But remember, ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING HELPS!

At the website listed below, please enter "Franklin I-O" in the "Specific Needs" box and your contribution will automatically be matched. Add my name in the section "in honor of" so I will be notified when your gift comes in. You will also receive a letter thanking you for your tax-deductible donation.
