Mayor Thomas M. Menino is committed to making our neighborhoods strong and supporting the well-being of all Boston residents. The youth of Boston deserve to have access to new opportunities that foster their personal and educational growth. The City of Boston, through Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF), is seeking partners to provide additional programs in City of Boston parks and community centers for the summer of 2008.
Mayor Thomas M. Menino is announcing the Boston R.O.C.K.S!!! Community Grants for the summer of 2008. This grant program will increase the number and variety of programs serving youth and increase the number of youth who have access to positive opportunities and safe environments. To this end, the Boston R.O.C.K.S!!! Community Grants will award a total of $300,000 to community-based organizations to support youth programming at City of Boston community centers and City parks.
Community-based organizations are required to partner with a local BCYF community center or hold their programming in a city park. Programs should be designed to match the needs and interests of youth. Local community centers and parks will work with community partners to provide space, allowing the community partner to focus their efforts toward programming and outreach.
Earlier this year, Mayor Menino announced the launch of Community Learning, a collaboration of public schools, libraries and BCYF community centers with private institutions and providers to provide youth with activities and opportunities that enrich and enhance their formal education and nurture their development. Community Learning focuses on four areas of child development- arts, character-building, education and sports, health and nutrition (ACES). Summer 2008 Boston R.O.C.K.S!!! Community Grants will be awarded to community-based organizations that can demonstrate the ability to engage underserved youth in structured programs that address one or more of these four ACES areas.
The Boston R.O.C.K.S!!! Community Grants will award up to $9,999 to community-based organizations whose efforts are in accordance with the attached criteria.
