WHAT: Fusion Arts is one of Sociedad Latina’s many efforts to bring together the youth and
community of Mission Hill.

Fusion Arts is a weekly series of multi cultural events planned and organized by active
Sociedad Latina Youth Leaders in the Sonic Life program. The events will take place every
Tuesday from 5pm-8pm, starting on July 7 and running until August 19. The six, free weekly
night events will focus on multi cultural, bilingual activities ranging from performance and visual
arts, dance, music, and many more.

Turning Sheehy Park into a cultural hub is part of Sociedad Latina’s Summer Safety Initiative,
which aims at preventing youth violence and reducing drug activity in the area during the
evening hours. Fusion Arts will empower youth to organize and reclaim this beautiful spot as a
positive space for youth and families can share in the celebration of their community.
The final Fusion Arts event in August will serve as the summer finale. It will showcase past art
projects created during the summer, and feature a wide range of traditional and popular art
forms in unique multimedia performances complete with food and music. A group of Youth
Leaders that will document the Fusion Arts series will conclude the activities by premiering a
video that will recap the summer’s events.

The mission of Sociedad Latina is to work in partnership with youth to create the next
generation of leaders. Founded in 1968, Sociedad Latina has grown into an organization that
provides a comprehensive, community-responsive array of programs designed to empower
Latino youth and their families. In 2007, while maintaining its commitment to remaining a Latino
organization with a focus on Latino youth, Sociedad Latina now serves youth and families of all
ethnicities and races, a testament to our commitment to the growing ethnic diversity of Roxbury
and greater Boston. To find out more visit www.sociedadlatina.org.
