Details

Screen printing is a long-standing art form used worldwide as a cutting edge medium for producing fine and commercial art. Originally invented for industry, screen printing allows an image to be mass-produced on paper, wood, fabric, or any number of other surfaces. T-shirts and other commercial applications are commonly associated with screen printing, but the process has a rich history in fine art among artists including Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, and Takashi Murakami.

While mastering the technical skills required to create professional-quality print editions, students are encouraged to think critically about design and visual communication in their own lives. Students in the Silkscreen Seminar will learn every step in the process from stretching their own screens to color theory, screen printing terminology, editioning, working with ink transparencies, and design theory. Using vibrant colors, students are encouraged to experiment with compositions created from overlapping forms and text, drawing on imagery from comic books, animation, personal iconography, and photographs.
