VISIONS Inc. is a non-profit multicultural consulting firm that works globally to address issues of diversity in various institutions. For over 20 years we have offered opportunities for people to connect across differences through valuable diversity training that can be used to create a more accepting and productive atmosphere.This year we would like to further develop a youth chapter of the VISIONS Inc. network. Throughout the past 5 years we have started to train youth consultants in order to teach the VISIONS model to young people. We would like to finalize the VISIONS youth curriculum and engage a core youth consultant team who can be called upon for VISIONS youth work.
“We believe that through multicultural education, positive expression, and the practice of collective responsibility, young people can become catalysts for positive change in our community, and the world.”-J. B. C.
The VISIONS Inc. Legacy Project is a job opportunity for 10-20 youth from ages 15- 25 who are interested in the following:
* Youth work
* Diversity
* Long term job opportunities
* The arts
* Community activism and organizing
This 8 week training program (from June 23rd-August 23rd 2008) will give participants an in depth understanding of multiculturalism, and valuable strategies to lead discussions about diversity issues in cross-cultural settings. Summer program participants will have the opportunity to express themselves creatively through the production of a community event. This collaborative event will provide safe, positive engagement for Boston area youth and an opportunity for local performers. Through this program participants will learn or enhance their skills in facilitation, community organizing, public speaking, networking, conflict management and creative expression.
The 4 hour sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays (Time of day will be based on participants availability) participants will receive a $100 per week stipend.
Summer program participants will also be given the option of continuing their VISIONS training to become certified VISIONS Youth Consultants. One of our main goals with this project is to build a core group of Youth Consultants who can eventually carry on the mission of the organization.
